We are committed to providing accessible facilities, services, programs, and resources to all members of the public.

Digital Accessibility Statement

As part of our commitment to accessibility, we are working to improve the accessibility and usability of our website and other digital platforms. Our goal is to meet the Level AA conformance criteria outlined in the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines v2.1. The library’s effort to improve the accessibility and usability of our digital platforms is ongoing. Resources for People with Mobility Disabilities

  • Our building is fully accessible, with electronic entry doors and wheelchair accessible restrooms.

Resources for People with Visual Disabilities

  • You can check out large-print books, download books and audiobooks, or check books on CD or preloaded Playaway devices.
  • We can make referrals to the State of Illinois Talking Books and Braille Service.
  • A Large Print keyboard and tabletop LED page magnifier are available for in-library use.

Resources for People with Hearing Disabilities

  • Sign language interpreters can be provided for library events with at least a two-week advance notice before the event. Call 309-792-0548 or email director@colonalibrary.com to request a sign language interpreter.

Quiet Spaces

The library’s Meeting Room are available for patrons who may need to take a break and be alone for a little while unless reserved by patrons or library programs.

Caregivers are also welcome to use this room with children to help manage meltdowns, calm anxiety, or bring a child’s energy down. If you need supportive items, please ask for a sensory bin at the front Desk.

  • Prepare for your visit to the library by reading our Social Story on our home page
  • Use our Meeting Room to help manage meltdowns, calm anxiety, or bring your child’s energy level down.
  • Ask for a Sensory Kit at the Circulation Desk to use while in the library. The kit contains an oil bubbler, the numerous beads' featuring auditory rainmaker, and the textured & squeezy tactile balls.
  • Listen to books by checking out read-along books and e-audiobooks.
